We really do consider Earth Day to be every day at Clean Bee. We package all of our wash, dry, fold orders in either reusable, washable laundry bags or reusable plastic bags. We don’t shrink wrap our finished product – your clean laundry – because we feel that the packaging should be able to be used again. We use any left over dry cleaning bags as garbage bags. In fact, in 7 years, we haven’t had to buy a single garbage bag. Here are some other things that we’ve been doing to tread lightly on the earth…

“Ten years ago, when we first started, we did a New Customer Dance with our children to celebrate the new baby… we still do that dance!” says Jennifer who handles customer service and day to day operations for Clean Bee. The Temples have noticed there are families are interested in cloth diapers but lack the financial resources to either use a diaper service on an on-going basis or to purchase a supply of new cloth diapers. “We loan diapers to various social service groups and donate diapers to organizations that work with families. Until now, we haven’t been able to reach the average family in the mid-coast who wants to use cloth diapers but who thinks that cloth diapering is financially unattainable. So we came up with the Clean Bee Laundry Home Launder Kit which families can borrow for as little as $20/month plus a refundable deposit.”
Broo and Jennifer Temple, of Lincolnville, purchased the laundromat in the Camden Reny’s Plaza almost 7 years ago as a way of growing the diaper service they had opened in 2005. “I remember thinking of all the diapers we could wash in all those washers,” says Broo who serves as the delivery driver, machine repair guy and marketing manager for the family business. “But it really wasn’t that easy. We wound up installing two large washers with ozone generators for all of the commercial laundry, including the diaper service, and transforming the laundromat from Spotless Cleaners to becoming who we are today – Clean Bee Laundry, the mid-coast’s earth conscious laundromat. ” For more information, visit Clean Bee Laundry at 93 Elm Street, Camden, call 236-2530 or contact us.

Bee-cause we love our customers and bee-cause our fabulous card readers make it possible to do this – we’ve lowered washer prices for our early morning customers. Any washer started between 7 and 9am is now 30% off. The discount applies to customers using quarters or swiping credit cards. What better way to start the day?
(Sorry, but the discount does not apply to Thing 1 or Thing 2 – our ozone washers which require attendant assistance to start.)
